I love quotes! I think that it's a great way to put feelings into words that make sense. The other day I was feeling kind of lost in this whole parenting thing, and so I searched for some quotes that kind of stated how I felt. The quotes below aren't neccessary what I was looking for, but I was intrigued by their truthfullness.
We worry about what a child will be tomorrow, yet we forgot that he is someone today.-Stacia Tauscher
This quote just kind of spoke to me. I think that parents are often so worried about creating successful adults, that we forget that they are are just children. We forget that in order for them to become those successful adults we must feed their creative and playful hearts. I often focus to much on what new things my children are learning, that I forget sometimes they just need to wrestle, cuddle, or mindlessly paint with me not asking them, "what color is this?", "how many are there?" Etc. Obviously, I want to create great learning opportunties, but sometimes they just want to play. They just want to be kids and have fun.
The thing that impresses me most about America is the way parents obey their children.-Duke of Windsor
This quote made me think a little.
First of all, I don't like the word "obey". My children are not dogs, and I do not expect them to "obey" me. I expect them to listen, respect, and learn from me. With that being said, I do listen to my children. How can we teach them to listen, if we don't listen to them? How can we expect them to respect people around them, if we don't respect them? My children have taught me so much about life. I am perfectly fine saying, that at times I have obeyed (listened to and respected) my children.
"When I was a child, my mother said to me, 'If you become a soldier, you'll be a general. If you become a monk you'll end up as the pope.' Instead I became a painter and wound up as Picasso."
-- Pablo Picasso
I LOVE this quote!! I think it might be one of my favorites. To me it just means, that whatever our children decide to be, we should encourage them to be the best. And I don't mean the best in a competitive way. We should encourage them to do things 100%.

Valentine's Day
I know I still haven't posted Christmas pictures, but I'm gonna go ahead and jump ahead, I will eventually post Christmas pics.....
Since Valentines was on a Monday this year, and Wyatt and I work opposite shifts we decided to celebrate that weekend. And by "we" I mean our family. We're not really into the whole Valentine's Day thing as a couple. I don't think we've ever gone out to celebrate, and now that we have the kiddos, we take advantage of the day and celebrate the love within our family. :-)
So, Saturday I went shopping and got the kid's their presents, I also went and bought a kinect for the xbox, which we all LOVE! :-) So glad we got it. Then we had supper with Mimi and Poppy, and they watched the kids play the kinect. They also gave each kid a book and sucker for Valentine's Day. We also went to Borders that day, and Collier loved it. Brenna was at home sick, so it was just him, and he was absolutely in love with all the books. :-)
Sunday, Brenna had gotten sick through the night, so her and I were downstairs sleeping. She woke up about 6:30 and saw the presents I had wrapped for them. She was so excited and wouldn't leave me alone about them. I told her she had to wait until her brother woke up, so for the next hour she waited, and bugged me about opening the presents, and waited, and bugged me....you get the idea. Finally, Bubby awoke and it was present time. We got Bubby this huge Plex pillow (from Yo Gabba Gabba), and a new YGG book. We got Brenna a set of BOB books, a new fancy nancy book, and some barbie clothes. They each got a sucker and a small box of chocolates. Bubby was more excited about the candy, and Brenna loved her Barbie clothes. :-)
Later, we finished B's school valentines and made some valentine's day cookies. :-) We had a fun weekend! :-)
I didn't take any pictures that day, SHAME ON ME!! Oh well......we were too busy having fun!

Who I thought I'd be......
Today has been rough. I've been crabby and grumpy most of the day. Sometimes I just get in these funks, and I just need rescued my the madness I call my life. I decided I would blog and the following blog is what came from my fingertips. I feel a little more refreshed, and excited about my little life, so I guess my blog session worked. :-)
I am a mother, a young mother. I have 2 children, 4 and 1. I live in the same county that I grew up in, and only live 10 minutes away from my parents. I actually live a block from the very high school, that I hated and couldn't wait to escape from. Ironic huh?! I am everything that I thought and at times prayed I wouldn't become.
Let's go back about 10 years (omg...that makes me fill old..yes, I'm only 24).
When I was 14, I was a freshmen in high school. EVERY girl I knew whether I was friends with them or "frenemies" with them, had some type of boyfriend. Usually he was a couple years older and played football (and of course he had to wear the stupid letterman jacket, and if she was "special enough" she got to wear it along with his precious class ring). Of course these girls were convinced at the ripe age of 14, they were in love, and we're going to marry said football player and live happily ever after. I guess even at the age I was very cynical, and knew that they were pretty much nuts. I was pretty much the exact opposite. Even at 14, I knew that would not be me. I would not give into the stereotype.
I was going to be "something". I was going to flee from Mercer county and NEVER look back. I had big plans. I was going to go to college (and not the junior college), I was going to be a powerful business woman, and wear expensive clothes, drive expensive vehicles, and go on expensive trips. I was going to be tied down, and I was going to live my life for me. I was going to be everything that these girls acted like they wouldn't be.
Flash forward a mere 5 years later, and what do you find? A knocked up 19 year attending the junior college, still living in Mercer county.........I guess it was my destiny.
Now flash forward another 5 years, and I'm the mother of two children. I (along with a lot of people) certainly wouldn't have guessed that I would be responsible for two humans. Or better yet, that I would be pretty good at it?
Now I work part-time at a job that pays peanuts and doesn't even require a college degree. I spend most of my time wearing sweat pants and tee shirts, I drive a Nissan (mom car), and well I don't see an expensive island getaway in my near future. Instead of spending the day in a board room for a successful company, I spend the day wiping butts, scrubbing last night's supper off of dishes, scrubbing permanent marker off of my 1 year old son, and picking up 500 pairs of tiny barbie shoes.
I also spend the day listening to my 4 year old "read" her little brother stories. I get to watch my son, watch his big sister in amazement at all the "cool" things she can do. I then get to watch him copy everything she does while saying, "Mama LOOK! Mama watch this!" I get to her, "Mama, I love you", more times then I deserve. I get kisses and hugs, and just thoughts of admiration from two little people who have changed my life so much. I get to be their Mama. I get to be the person that they run crying to, when they get hurt. I get to the person that Brenna runs to when she has wrote the alphabet by herself and is to excited to even tell me. I am the person Collier ask for when he's ready for night-night. I get the unconditional love from the two most amazing people in the world.
I am so thankful that everything that mattered to me 10 years ago, means absolutely nothing to me now. I'm thankful that I met the "bad boy" and fell in love with him. I'm thankful that I skipped out in going away to college for that "bad boy". I am thankful that at 19 I got knocked up. I think that's when my life started actually being right. I'm thankful I'm not the person I wanted to be.

A New Year!
Happy New Year!! I can't believe 2011 is here! It's always so exciting when a new year comes, it seems like a new start! :-)
Here's a little recap of our 2010!
January:
We lost Grandma Mueller. It was a sad time for our family, but it was a huge learning experience for Brenna. A day doesn't go by that she doesn't talk about Heaven, and the ones we've lost.
February:
Don't really remember too much here, except that we found out that the mass on Mimi's lung (she's a non-smoker) was NOT cancer! :-)
I also started my MBA.
March:
Wyatt ended his LONG 10 months of unemployment and started working at GPC. We both hated the hours, and he hated the job, but we were glad he was working.
We also found out Julie had cancer again. :-(
We also welcomed Carly, our new dog to the family.
April:
Collier turned ONE!! :-) We had a nice little party at our house for him, and he was spoiled with gifts.
We also celebrated Easter at our house. It's always fun when we get all the kiddos together.
May:
I did the HCG diet in April/May and lost close to 30 lbs! :-)
June:
Wyatt started back at Allsteel! This was a HUGE blessing for our family! :-)
Wyatt turned 30! Ahhh......lol! I tease him all the time that he's an old man!
July:
We just spent a lot of time outdoors, enjoying the nice summer weather. I also decided I was ready to go back to work.
August:
I started working at RK Dixon. I really enjoy my job and I see myself working there for a long time. I LOVE that I work part time. Such a blessing to have found this job.
September:
In March, my BFF got engaged. So in September we spent a lot of time doing wedding festivities! It was a lot of fun! :-) Such an honor for my family to be included.
October:
Miss B turned 4!!
Katie and John got married!
We loss Julie....
November:
Celebrated Thanksgiving! Had a lot to be thankful this year.
I quit the MBA program. I'm not usually a quitter but I realized it just didn't suite my life or my family's. I don't see myself working full time for a while, and if I completed it, I would have to work full time to pay the student loans...just didn't make sense. I might go back, I might not. Either way I'm content with my decision. :-)
December:
CHRISTMAS!! This was by far the best Christmas!
That's just a quick run through of 2010, and I still have post from 2010 to get on the blog so look forward to that hopefully today!
I think 2011 is going to be a great year for us. Wyatt and I are both working jobs that we like. The kids are growing and learning everyday, and it's a blast to watch them.
Some goals of mine for 2011 are:
*Be more organized. Some how I've become a hot mess, and it is a huge issue for me. I need to get back to being more organized and planned.
*More Community service.
*Lose more weight. I'm going to start the HCG diet again so I'm sure that will happen.
*Date nights with Wyatt. Now this is a hard one because he works almost every Saturday, so we might have to have date nights at home. Either way I want to spend more time with him and just him. :-)
*Do some work to our house. I have a list of stuff I've been wanting to do since we moved here. We've had either time or money constraints, and it hasn't gotten done. In 2011 it WILL get done. :-)
*Family vacations. We were planning on a Disney trip this year, but we decided it just made more sense to go the next year when Collier was a little older and can enjoy it more. We are however planning a St. Louis trip and an Adventureland trip! I also want to do some zoo, waterpark, museum, fishing, etc. outings this year too. Again this is hard since Wyatt works Saturdays, but I guess we will really busy on Sundays.
*Lots and lots of learning for the kids! I would like to see Brenna reading and learning math. :-) I would also like to see Collier learning the ABC's and numbers. Obviously, having fun while learning is a must, so no pressure on this one.
*A garden. Last year we attempted a container garden, it didn't turn out. I REALLY want to do an actual garden this year. Hopefully, we can get something to grow!
I hope everyone has a new year filled with laughter and happiness! :-)

Christmas Crafts
Here are just 2 of the crafts the kids this Christmas. Brenna made a snowman and they painted ornaments. They also made reindeer, wreaths, and colored Christmas pictures, but I didn't take any pictures of those crafts.

Falling down the stairs........
When we were looking at this house to buy (over 2 years ago) one of my biggest concerns was having a child fall down the stairs. And a couple weekends ago that happened. It was absolutely terrifying. Here's the story.
Lola, 60 lb-clumsy dog, had ran upstairs. Well she's not allowed upstairs because she tears things up. So I ran up after her, and Collier followed me up. I didn't think much of it. He's great on the stairs, goes up and down them all the time. When I got to the second landing, Collier was at the first landing (so 13 stairs). I yelled at Lola, and she came running and turned the corner and before I could do anything she bumped Collier backwards. Him falling down the stairs probably lasted 3 seconds, but to me it felt like a lifetime. It was so slow motion, and there was absolutely nothing I could do. I watched him roll head over heels down the steps several times, and I screamed bloody murder. Brenna was about 6 or so steps up, and I'm very glad he didn't hit her and knock her down as well. I felt awful for Brenna because she was so upset. Once Collier hit the floor I rushed to him. He was screaming. Okay....that's good. That means he's still alive (I know that sounds awful but it was a long and hard fall). I gathered him up immediately and started cuddling him and checking him over. I called Mimi who is a nurse, and after her calming me down and assuring me he was probably fine, I was able to breathe a little. I called Wyatt to come home though, since I thought an ER trip was necessary. He might have been acting okay, but I'm not a nurse/doctor and had no idea if he had any head trauma (most of the fall/tumbles were on his head).
Once we got to the ER we had to wait around an hour or so. This was very unusual because it usually isn't that busy (at least anytime we've been). When we got there we knew the little guy was okay. He was acting like a monster. Messing up the Christmas tree, running and hiding from us, and tormenting his sister and cousin. :-) Once we got back to the room they looked him over real quick and said it looked like he was just fine. The doctor said they could do a CT scan if I really wanted it, but they would have to sedate him. In my opinion and the doctor's it wasn't worth the risk of sedating him. At the point if he had any head trauma it would definitely be showing. So then we went home!!
I can't put into words how blessed we are. This accident could have become very serious. It's scary to think about what could have happened. I'm just glad we have some angels watching over us. :-) They kept my little guy safe. :-)

Christmas Tree
We put up our Christmas tree tonight. Brenna has been harassing me for probably a month about the tree. So she was extremely excited when I said we were going to do it tonight. Brenna loved putting all of our "SPECIAL" ornaments on the tree. The special ones are the ones they have made or their hallmark ones that we buy each year.
Here are some of the pictures. They're not the best because I'm using Julie's old camera (and it's old...lol). Mine decided to quit working at Halloween. (Luckily, I'm getting a new one for Christmas!) Also, there's only a couple because my computer wouldn't upload must of them.
The kiddos together. Very lucky I even got this picture. Collier kept kicking and hitting Brenna every time she got in a picture.

Him and Chancey are like best buds!

Yea...she has a dress on. No one tells Brenna she can't wear a dress, even in the dead of winter.

Their 2010 hallmark ornaments! Bubby kept carrying his around and didn't want to put it on the tree. Finally he set it down, and I grabbed it, and hung it up.

We've also been trying to do a Christmas activity each day.
Day 1: We wrote a letter to Santa.
Day 2: We decorated the windows with Christmas decorations.
Day 3: We went to Disney on Ice. Technically, its not a Christmas activity, but DOI always comes a couple weeks before Christmas, so for our family it has kind of become a little Christmas/Winter tradition.
Day 4: We made Rudolph pictures with or feet cutouts and hand prints. I'll have to take a picture of them.
Day 5: We made chocolate covered pretzels and put up the Christmas tree.
Activities for the upcoming week involve:
1. Coloring Christmas pictures
2. Watching Christmas movies
3. Making ornaments
4. Make a Christmas tree picture
5. Drive around and look at Christmas lights.
We probably won't do something every single day, unfortunately there isn't always enough time, but I'm definitely trying to incorporate Christmas as much as possible.
